Textbooks are an easy way of teaching students however, it is known to be just a guideline for the teachers to know what to relay the information to students. Ms. Ting uses a variety of references, from textbook to online resources. Though it was not a problem in using textbooks, Ms. Ting believes that providing the students additional as well as different types of exercise instead of just stopping on textbook activities will at least push them to learn and to solidify their concept on a topic. Her selection of resources usually comes for online references, she also double checks the content of the resources for their credibility and eligibility to her class' and occasionally the whole Year 6's standard. The reason was due to the fact that the teachers would also share their resources for the better teaching quality. This is beneficial to the teachers as this also save up time for others when looking for resources suitable for their class.
When selecting and preparing teaching resources, these are the things that Ms. Ting and other teachers need to take note of:
- Teaching resource type
- Phase of schooling and/or Year level
- Curriculum area
- Bias or prejudice- based topics (it applies to bullying)
- Diverse student needs
Based on the materials prepared by Ms. Ting, she must not only take note of the students' prior knowledge, but also whether the contents of the resources contain educational value, she also needs to filter whether the contents are also suitable for the students' age group - whether it is appropriate for them or they have reached the capacity to understand them such as controversial topics or topics that are deemed inappropriate to the students or their parents due to their upbringing or even religion, These are all the things Ms. Ting had to consider about.

However, there are occasions that the teachers are required to teach students controversial topics as they are essential for them to gain awareness and knowledge about it. Thus, Ms. Ting will also have to seek permission from the students' parents regarding her topic content, then only she will have to look for the appropriate resources that suite the parents' permission for reference. If she ought to teach them, she must give a very clear explanation for the students to understand so that they will not interpret the topic in a different way. In the end, her teaching resources must always be aligned with the class' Learning Objectives.
